M2 The Fleas of Legend

As I wake up to the dying heat of the fire, I feel wrong. I try to go back to sleep, but I can't. "Is something wrong?" I question myself. I would expect to have people coming home this time at night. I watch a rat, or mouse, sweating. It almost bit me, but then looks back at me with it's beady red eyes. It had horror and pain written all over it's face, and was so sullen I almost ran away. What's happening?

I watch a black dot pelt across my face, and beyond it is a gory catastrophe. A giant blows loud winds at me, is it what they call coughing? He closes his eyes and then spazzes almost hitting me and breaking my head. He has muscle spasms, pain, is sweating, and has blue and black splotches (don't forget the countless rat bites). Is this the horror of the Bubonic Plague that would soon kill almost half the humans on Europe? I see the same black dot jumping from hair to hair on everyone. I'm going to the church!

After a hour long walk along the carcasses of the dead homo-sapiens (aka. humans), canines (dogs), and felines (cats) scattered through the roads and houses, I'm at the church. I gaze at the dying mouse I saw earlier. I saw the guilt and pain screaming in his face. He just stared at with his tired red eyes. Only humans and elephants can cry, but I swear I saw a drop of water falling from her eyes. I noticed a colony of dying people and mice, once I looked in the background. She was the only one who cared about me.

Because I don't have fur to acquire the black dots, I slowly guide him back to the little hole I came through. While I'm showing him a way to the vet, I see his face turn to stone. "It's just,", I positively think "a symptom, he's still with us." I drop him in the office and in no time at all, I hear screaming, slowly turning into awwws as they see his fluffy white fur, pink nose, and whiskers. He was unscathed and walking in no time, and in no hurry to go back.

I am a TTI member and must go back though. I slowly guide my way back, and the loud noises of pain lit up the room like a candle. Rats and humans are scurrying the streets. I see trickling water, and slowly approach the source. It's someone bathing, but not do they know that the fleas would stay in their hair, and you can't wash away a rat bite. I just wander back to the wispy fire and rest, yet again, knowing there's nothing else I can do.

  2. It is so refreshing to have travelers of non-human species. You did a great job noticing the "little things."
